Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) is an advanced software service that enables users running a wide array of modern Intel processors (both on desktops and laptops) to wirelessly transport desktop audio/video feed of various applications and multimedia files such as music and movies straight to the compatible TV in your surroundings.

⚠ Note: This product is not developed anymore. Try Intel Unison.

By installing this driver package, you can unlock the full power of your home hardware and enable effortless sharing of your desktop area without any wires to a compatible TV, or through the use of the adapter with other monitors and TVs.

In addition to accessing your desktop/laptop multimedia content on your big tv, owners of the Intel WiDi Widget could also take greater control over your remote PC hardware, with the ability to for example check your email during active movie streaming sessions. Essentially, with WiDi, you can transform your TV into a second monitor that is connected to your desktop PC or laptop completely wirelessly!

Since its introduction in 2010, Intel Wireless Display “WiDi” technology has improved immensely and has gained much-requested features such as support for touch, 3D content, streaming of DVD and Bluray content, compatibility with 5GHz Wi-Fi standard, and resolution support up to 4K Ultra HD.

The active development of WiDi technology was discontinued by Intel in 2015 when this company announced that their efforts will move toward supporting competing Miractast standards developed by Wi-Fi Alliance and which was natively supported by modern versions of Windows.

Installation and Use

To take advantage of Intel Wireless Display technologies, you first need to check if you are meeting all the necessary hardware and software requirements such as CPU generation, presence of modern Intel integrated GPU (with accompanying driver release), compatible versions of Windows (Windows 7 and newer) and compatible wireless adapter. All these requirements will be presented to you when you download and start the installation package that weighs a bit over 120MB.

If these requirements are met, you will be presented with a very straightforward installation procedure where all you need to do is to follow on-screen instruction and perform a full restart of your PC.

The configuration window of the Intel WiDi driver features a single screen that will automatically try to detect all the available displays and devices to which you can send a real-time video feed of your desktop or app surface. The list of compatible devices can include nearby DLNA devices, who can detect and playback your multimedia files with ease. You can easily overview the connection status for each device, current mode of operation, and strength of the wireless signal.

  • Control remote PC hardware during streaming.
