The Tricky Mod - Friday Night Funkin' is a free DLC expansion for the popular free-to-play indie rhythm game Friday Night Funkin' that has gathered many fans after its release in late 2020.

Paying homage to many influential rhythm games such as PaRappa the Rapper and Dance Dance Revolution, this simple 2D open-source titles offers many challenges during its long single-player campaign (that is separated into 6 weeks) in which our main protagonist Boyfriends has to win the affection of his Girlfriend by musically impressing and beating many opponents such as her father, mother, and various hitmen, musicians and others.

However, players who have mastered the stages and songs in the original game can finally find a new challenge, in the form of a free DLC pack that introduces a new week full of new songs.

The main opponent in The Tricky Mod is none other than the alien clown Trickly, famous for his appearance in the Adobe Flash game “Madness Combat”. His appearance remains the same, as he is portrayed as a clown-like beast with green skin, red hair, a large animal mouth, and most disturbingly, lack of any other facial features such as eyes, nose, and ears. At the start of this DLC, Trickly challenges Boyfriend to a beatboxing match, with more and more challenging songs being introduced as the week goes on.

The gameplay of Friday Night Funkin' is not altered inside this expansion. The players still have to properly hold the beat of the current song by timely presses of the keyboard buttons in accordance with on-screen prompts. To win each song battle, the player must maintain his score by not making mistakes. The score is calculated with the meter bards at bottom of the screen. Doing good moves the bar on the left and turn the bar greener, while poor key presses will move it to the light and paint it redder.

Similar to in the base game, The Tricky Mod - Friday Night Funkin' can be played with three difficulty settings – Easy, Intermediate, and Hard. It is important to note that the new songs available here are overall much more difficult than those present in the base game, so even on the Easy mode, the players will have to maintain their attention and be very fast and effective in order to win. And since the game is much more challenging in two higher-difficulty settings, this mod represents a true test of skill for the players who have mastered the original.

The Tricky Mod - Friday Night Funkin' is an excellent addon to an already well-made rhythm music game. And since it does not raise the system requirement levels, anybody with a working PC 32bit or 64bit running Windows 8 and newer will be able to easily play this title.
