Growl is a single tool that notifies you when a certain event occurs; it is highly configurable, works with numerous applications and can discretely notify you every time you receive a new email, one of your friends gets online, a file has been downloaded, or other events occur. You can choose which events to trigger notifications, the type of notification – audio, visual, both or none; you can even get the notification read to you or sent to your email. Growl works with chat software, email clients, file sharing and file transfer software, Twitter clients, Yahoo widgets and many more; once these applications are installed they do not have to be configured - as long as they are supported by Growl, you will start receiving notifications right away.
