Lexmark Printer Driver is a software package needed to enable reliable, fast, and secure operation of Lexmark printers for PC. With over four decades of creating printer devices for all families of Windows OS computers (ranging even back to time to first Windows 3.1!), Lexmark has managed to streamline the process of printer management and make it as easy as possible for users of all knowledge levels.

Their large catalog of printer devices that are offered to both home and enterprise users is bundled with the necessary drivers, an important software layer that sits between users and its desktop or laptop hardware, and the external printer accessory.

Sadly, simply connecting Lexmark printer to your PC will not enable you to immediately start printing your text, images, and documents. In most cases, PC will only detect the presence of the newly added external accessory, but will not have the ability to install even the generic drivers for basic printing. To do that, you will first have to install officially certified drivers that are a match to your specific printer model and versions of the OS.

It is highly recommended to always install the newest and up-to-date version of Lexmark printer drivers for Windows 11/10 since they incorporate various software fixes and optimizations that will enable you to use your printer safely and reliably. Drivers for most modern printers come in an automated installer that will detect the exact version of your Lexmark printer (inkjet, laser, all-in-one, or any other type) and install the required driver files directly into system directories of your Windows OS.

By completing the driver installation procedure, you will enable your PC to take full advantage of your printer device. This includes not only enabling users to access all of the printing configuration tools (picking paper size, printing resolution, and many other basic features), but depending on the driver size and manufacturer support, also a wide array of advanced features such as administrative tools, auto-updater services, business management apps, and unlocking of all compatible networking features. Newer Lexmark printers come with full support for wireless network communication, enabling nearby users of laptops, tablets, and smartphones to easily connect to them and send printing orders wirelessly.

In the event that your printer starts refusing to print reliably, becomes slower, unresponsive, or starts exhibiting software glitches when you order printing, you will need to check for hardware or software faults. Damaged or corrupt drivers are most commonly the source of any software errors. In such an event, it is highly recommended to reinstall the driver on your PC or install a newer version that features up-to-date fixes for various software errors. Remember to always install Lexmark printer drivers that are officially certified by the printer manufacturer for your version of Windows OS (although in many cases, drivers intended for Windows 7 will work on newer versions of this OS).

PROS
  • Compatibility: The printer drivers are designed to work seamlessly with Lexmark printers, ensuring good compatibility and reliable performance.
  • Feature Support: Lexmark drivers often provide access to advanced features and settings of Lexmark printers, allowing you to customize your printing experience.

  • Security: Official drivers from Lexmark are generally more secure than third-party drivers, reducing the risk of malware or security vulnerabilities.
CONS
  • Limited OS Support: It may not always provide drivers for all operating systems, especially for older printer models. This can be a problem if you're using an unsupported OS.
  • Updates: The drivers may not receive regular updates, especially for older printers. This can lead to compatibility issues when using newer operating systems.
  • Resource Intensive: Lexmark drivers can sometimes be resource-intensive, consuming system resources like CPU and RAM, which may affect the overall performance of your computer.
  • Lack of Features: In some cases, Lexmark drivers may not offer as many features or customization options compared to third-party alternatives.
  • Dependency on Manufacturer: You may be dependent on Lexmark for driver updates and support, and if the company discontinues support for a particular model, you may face difficulties in the future.
Driver support for Lexmark printer features both standalone drivers for specific printer models or all-in-one automated installers that can provide drivers to entire families of printer models. With decades of experience in creating printers of all types and sizes (color or monochrome inkjets, laser printers, multifunction printers, label printers, POS printers, large format printers, and even legacy dot matrix printers), Lexmark is here to make printing easier for you.
