PostgreSQL is a cross-platform object-relational database management system that has managed since its initial release in 1995 to grow into internationally-known solution that can help any administrator to easily create, organize, manage and deploy databases for projects of all shapes and sizes. This of course includes full control over run SQL queries, trigger management, attribute management, and every feature that other enterprise class database management systems are utilizing today. To make itself more easily accessible to administrators who are on daily basis handling multiple jobs and project components, PostgreSQL is compliant with most of SQL 2008 data types, and can provide native programing interfaces for all the most popular programming languages (including C, C++, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, Java and many others) and can manage database sizes of unlimited size (table sizes can go up to 32 TB).
Functions of PostgreSQL can hardly be described in this short review, but most importantly, PostgreSQL has full support for all storage and replication tools (powerful indexing options, built-in binary replication, Schemas (non-nested directory structure database management), data types (more than 20 of them, including those created by users themselves), inheritance characteristics, table spaces, trigger management, procedural languages, powerful online backup that supports point-in-time recovery and much more.
As can be expected from this enterprise-level database management system, its user interface is very customizable so that users can easily navigate and control their databases, scripts, debuggers, servers, and more.
With each passing year PostgreSQL continues to evolve, enabling database administrators larger freedom to control all their projects no matter how large or complicated they are.
