OTOY is proud to advance the state of the art once again with the release of OctaneRender – available now – with groundbreaking machine learning techniques, out of core geometry support, and massive 10-100x speed gains in the scene graph.
Highlights
Volumetric Rendering
It supports rendering of particulate matter such as clouds, smoke, fog, and fire with varying densities and introduces a unique native primitive type for incredibly detailed micro-surface displacement volumes and surfaces required to render photo-realistic natural and organic materials.
Deep Pixel Rendering
It adds deep pixel rendering support as well as live connecting of DCC and compositing apps through the Octane Renderer for Nuke® plugin.
OSL
The app supports Open Shading Language, enabling artists to create their shaders and bring custom shaders from other software directly into the projects.
Live Texture Baking
It supports unbiased GPU texture baking (UV or volumetric) of global illumination, spherical harmonics and, 8D light fields.
Speed
Leveraging the power of the GPU, It can render final quality images 10x to 50x faster than CPU-based, unbiased rendering engines. That means, no more "get up and wait" in your workflow.
Interactivity
The app's on-screen viewport is the final render. Any changes to the scene are instantly updated on the screen allowing you to tweak any setting and view the results immediately.
Lighting
It supports HDRI, mesh emitters, IES files, and a planetary sun/sky system. Rotate an HDRI file to position it in your scene, or turn any object into a mesh light by enabling the emission property of the material. With the additional Light Linking and Light Exclusion features, the Render app allows you to manipulate the lighting in a scene, however, you choose.
Materials
It supports subsurface light scattering (SSS), complex IOR, chromatic dispersion, and absorption to create some of the best materials in the industry. Use the node editor to create complex materials from procedural textures, or quickly pull material from OctaneLive Material Database. In addition to OSL Textures, It supports metallic materials, toon shaders, and allows importing complex PBR textures through a universal uber material node.

Octane Denoiser
Render noise-free images in a fraction of the time with OctaneRender’s denoising implementation with huge advantages over OptiX™.
Out of Core Geometry
It can render fast out-of-core geometry from CPU memory, with minimal speed loss, even across multiple GPUs - a first for an unbiased GPU renderer.

What's New
NVIDIA RTX Acceleration
Experience 2-5x faster render speeds on NVIDIA raytracing GPUs with RTX hardware acceleration. Speed gains are most notable in complex scenes and can be benchmarked using RTX OctaneBench®.
Layered Materials
Construct complex materials with the new layered material system, allowing up to 8 layers on a base layer. New nodes include layered material, diffuse layer, specular layer, sheen layer, metallic layer, and layer group nodes, enabling physically-based material recreation.
Spectral Random Walk SSS and Hair Material
Create ultra-realistic skin and scattering materials with the new Random Walk medium. The Spectral Hair Material supports various coloring modes and roughness parameters for photorealistic digital characters.
VECTRON™
Generate infinite procedurally created scenes, volumes, and geometry with Vector-Polygon geometry, bypassing meshes and volumes and using zero GPU VRAM.
SPECTRON™
