Built from the ground up to be as simple to use as possible, this lightweight application can perform a wide array of quick benchmarks and generate a report that will clearly showcase the current operational status of the CPU.

This utility can be used in several situations, but most often it is used either when a user wants to check if their CPU is performing as officially specified, after the purchase of a second-hand CPU, or for checking if business PC configurations are ready to be deployed in the office.
- Verify the functionality of all the cores of the Intel® Processor
- Check for the brand identification
- Verify the processor operating frequency
- Test specific processor features
- Perform a stress test on the processor
The user interface of the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is a bit cluttered and full of information, but thankfully, the entire procedure of checking the CPU status is as simple as possible.
Upon starting the app, it will automatically start the scanning procedure. Users are highly recommended not to interact with the PC during this time, as it is best to leave the PC alone while every part of its CPU architecture is being tested.

After the scan is complete, users will be presented with the listing of tests, the result of the tests, a log listing of the testing procedure, and a complete summary with a bright green PASS or strong red FAILED depending on the diagnostic results.
By default, the checkmark option for “Stop Testing on Fail” is activated, so users will be immediately notified if some part of the CPU function has failed. In addition to running a full diagnostic test, users can also opt to run a dedicated temperature monitoring test that will test if the CPU has adequate cooling.
In the dropdown menus at the top of the app, users can also select a long-term “Burn-in-Test” that can really push the CPU to its maximum working potential during a prolonged period of time.
All in all, Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is a competent diagnostic tool that can help both novices and seasoned technicians to test the stability and functionality of any modern Intel CPU chip.

FAQs
What is the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool used for?
The Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT) is an official utility developed by Intel to verify the functionality of Intel CPUs. It checks processor brand identification, operating frequency, feature support, and performs stress tests to confirm that the CPU is working within Intel’s specifications.
What tests does the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool perform?
IPDT runs a series of automated checks, including CPU load testing, floating-point and integer calculations, cache verification, and instruction set validation. It compares the processor’s performance and features against expected factory specifications to detect potential faults.
Does the tool work with all processors?
No. The Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is designed specifically for Intel processors. It does not support AMD CPUs or other brands. Compatibility may also depend on the processor generation and supported operating system version.
Can IPDT detect overheating issues?
The tool monitors temperature and performs stress testing, which can help reveal overheating problems if the system fails under load. However, it is primarily a diagnostic verification tool and not a full-time hardware monitoring application.
Is the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool safe to use?
Yes. Since it is an official Intel utility, it is safe when downloaded from Intel’s official website. The stress tests are designed to run within safe operational limits defined by Intel, though adequate cooling is recommended during testing.
