MPC-BE (aka - Media Player Classic - Black Edition) is a free and open-source audio and video player for Windows PC based on the original Media Player Classic project and Media Player Classic Home Cinema project but contains numerous other features and bug fixes. The Black Edition Mod (BE mod) is a skinned version of Media Player Classic Home Cinema, much better looking than the plain old Media Player Classic. Media Player Classic - Black Edition Mod is usually newer and features the latest SVN as well as the most up-to-date version of the code.

Media Player Classic - Black Edition Features:
  • "Speed Step" settings
  • DXVA (GPU) indicator on the toolbar
  • JPEG 2000 support in MP4/MOV splitter and decoder, FFmpeg + OpenJPEG library is used for decoding
  • Full Opus support, splitter + decoder, FFmpeg + libopus is used for decoding

- Improved DTS-HD track detection

MpegSplitter:
- Improved support for Dolby Vision Profile 7

MPCVideoDec:
- The VVdeC decoder is now used for VVC video on processors without SSE4.1 support
- Fixed P010 to YV12 conversion
- Optimized P010 to NV12 conversion for processors without SSE4
- Optimized work with NVDEC
- Fixed output format detection for FFV1 video

Subtitles:
- The "Forced Only" setting now works with the entire PGS subtitle track marked asForced.

Player:
- Improved support for moving the file properties window between displays withdifferent text scaling.
- Fixed remembering the position of some DVD-Videos
- Subtitles added manually are now saved in the playlist
- Do not hide the player until the DirectShow graph is closed
