Sometimes latest versions of the software can cause issues when installed on older devices or devices running an older version of the operating system.

Software makers usually fix these issues but it can take them some time. What you can do in the meantime is to download and install an older version of Xplorer2 Ultimate 6.4.0.0 (32-bit).

What's new in this version:

- Graphical cloud status icons like windows explorer! For many popular cloud drives (OneDrive, DropBox, Box) you can see the local availability of cloud files with an icon (equivalent to the AVAILABILITY STATUS text). Use VIEW > SELECT COLUMNS menu command and search for a column called CLOUD STATUS (use the search box), then add it to the current set.
- The only special category are those "online" files that save local storage. xplorer² will only manage simple information of these items, so as to avoid unnecessary local downloads. For example it won't search in text contents (unless you turn on the advanced option "Allow downloading on demand cloud files" GAO2_DOWNLOADCLOUD). Naturally if you try to open such an online file, it will be downloaded.
- Sadly some popular cloud drives like Google drive, pCloud and so on aren't developed according to MS cloud specs so they only
- Show cloud status as an icon overlay on the main file icon. More seriously, xplorer² doesn't know which files are "online only", so if you do a content search ALL the files will be downloaded willy-nilly. Your complaints on a postcard to Google and co please :)
- Size on disk [S]tock property shows size 0 for online-only files (what you see locally is only a placeholder).
- Redesign of shell column (file details) persistence so that saved column sets aren't affected when system updates add extra columns — or when you add/remove WDX plugins. You won't see much changed on the surface but let me assure you that this was a very hard programming task indeed!
- To see this working for your old settings, you must create a new column set in CUSTOMIZE menu (and search filter etc), so that xplorer² will save the column data with the new format — you only need ONE change, not for all your saved column sets. Sorry this feature isn't supported for windows XP and older.
- [U] duplicate System.xxx columns aren't allowed (registry key szSystemPropsList), you must use the equivalent available shell column if there is one — of course you are free to add any that doesn't have a shell equivalent.
- (For WDX plugins it is very important not to change the filenames of the servers or their identification will be messed up.)
- To disable this new bookkeeping use the advanced option MGAO3_NOCOLIDHASH (=65536)
- NOTE: this feature introduces a breaking change in xplorer², meaning that the new column format will crash older versions of xplorer² ! That is why the feature is OFF by default. However it is useful if you are using many shell properties, so you need TOOLS > ADVANCED SETTINGS editor to turn it back on. Search for "Save file details for backward compatibility" and tick it off. If you mostly use [S]tock details in view (and file search), then leave the option disabled for backward compatibility.
- * [U] popup minisearch (from the quickfilter bar) works inside THISPC folder, if everything search is running. You need to press ENTER key in this case though.
- The file splitter command (ACTIONS menu) is careful with target devices. It will warn you if you try to create a split portion bigger than 4GB FAT32 limit. It also warns you if there's not enough free space for the parts. Same goes for ACTIONS > MERGE FILES menu.
- [P] The simple version of file search and similar dialogs, recognizes regular expressions in NAMED field automatically if you use special characters like "[^($|!" . If you are using some other special character introduce a dummy range [a] - or switch to the full filter mode and set the fuzziness box to 0.
- [P] search option to ignore diacritics (e.g. "hallo" will match hällo, like fuzzy name matching). Applies to all text searches (filenames, text contents etc). As there's no room for tickboxes in search dialogs, it is available from TOOLS > OPTIONS menu (Advanced section). Makes searches slightly slower for dropping all those accents.
- The quick previewer (draft tab) will show any text matched in a file WITHOUT accents — this may not be the actual file content though. This is required so you can see the keyword hit regardless of its accent. Sadly this "trick" cannot be used within editor² (F3 command will be confused by dropped accents).
- This option isn't of much use for English or Orientals where accents don't exist (not even letter case). But Greeks, Germans, French and the like will be happy!
- [U] This mode is compatible with everything search; for WDS index all searches are diacritive-insensitive (and case-insensitive), whether you tick this option or not.
- NOTE: all xplorer² filters will be affected by this property, including color coding and robust copy filter rules.
- For plain text files (no utf8/unicode BOM) choice of encoding is important (or default system locale)
- Program option for the text color for the folder lists (TOOLS > OPTIONS menu, Appearance category). This works even for dark mode. You must be careful to provide a color that looks good against all possible background colors (e.g. inactive pane etc). Otherwise it is reset to default (black). Any color coding rules take precedence over this text color option. Note: to apply this color to inactive panes, tick the advanced option "Filename color coding applied to inactive views".
- Now you can turn your xplorer² into a NC-lookalike choosing the colors: background:x0402AC and text:x54FDFC
- (here's a small registry script that emulates NC: www.zabkat.com/test/nc-colors.reg -- run it while xplorer² isn't running)
- A couple of options moved from the external settings editor into the program (TOOLS > OPTIONS). "Clickable path" ([P] appearance section) controls whether you want the new or the old addressbar (which wasn't clickable). In Format section there is a drop-down that controls the file "Date style": normal (dd/mm/yy), friendly (this month) or file age (10 days ago).
- * [P] macro executioon will show a warning message if you switch windows while a macro executes. You shouldn't be doing anything with xplorer² (leave the mouse and keyboard alone) while the macro is executing, otherwise macro will usually fail to complete. Not the best design I grant you.
- * [P] When you are trying to safely remove a USB hard disk xplorer² will stop browsing it (if required) to unlock the device. Use SAFELY REMOVE icon from windows taskbar for best results. For plain USB sticks you can use the EJECT shell context menu command. NOTE: this only works if the drivebar is visible!
- Tree option FTCOPT_AUTOHSCROLL (=4096) brings back the slow horizontal scrolling folder tree behavior that was disabled in v6.3. Change it from TOOLS > ADVANCED OPTIONS menu (search for TREE)
- New 32x32 toolbar buttons for organize and find-file dialogs (shown automatically if if running in high DPI)
- Hidden/system file and folder icons paint with the standard ghosted effect. Use MGAO3_NODARKSYSICON(=16384) advamced option to disable this feature. Applies to folder tree too. NOTE: if using custom line spacing, the hidden icon isn't dimmed properly, but shows different anyway.
- Line spacing advanced option (nLineSpacing100) also applies for the folder tree as well.
- [U] File FRN number (system property) formatted more sensibly in 2 hex groups (the first one is a bitmap).
- Bugfixes: bootstrap (cyclic) folder drop in deep path
- After 22 years selling at $30, xplorer² gets its first price inflation. Upgrade prices stay the same for the time being.
- Active panel background color (TOOLS > ADVANCED SETTINGS) is also applied for dark mode, IF it is dark enough. Note this won't be used for any UI elements except for folder panes. Greetings to Ireland :)
- VIEW > DETAILS PANE menu should show a better column layout for high DPI displays. If you have a custom HTM file (www.zabkat.com/blog/customize-details-pane.htm) you need to increase the max-width attribute of .pane to 350px or more

Editor² v3.1 can search for regular expressions if you tick RE box in find text dialog CTRL+F. Sorry no regexp replace or multi-line matching. Here are some editor² keyboard shortcuts you may not know:
- Ctrl+PageUp Jump to the top of the window
- Alt+PageUp Scroll the current line first (topmost)
- Ctrl+PageDn Jump to the bottom of the window
- ALT+Y Repeat last menu command
